Mangaluru Prepares for Spectacular Dog Show at Karavali Utsav
The coastal city of Mangaluru is gearing up for a major canine spectacle. Organizers will present the Kudla Shvana Pradarshana dog show as a highlight of the upcoming Karavali Utsav-2026 festival. This exciting event promises to draw large crowds of pet lovers and families.
Show Details and Participation
The dog show will take place at the Karavali Utsav Maidan on January 25. It will run from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, offering six full hours of canine entertainment. District Commissioner Darshan HV confirmed his personal participation with his two registered pets, Yuki the golden retriever and Tora the labrador.
Three key organizations are collaborating to make this event successful. The district administration, the Zilla Panchayat, and the animal husbandry and veterinary services department are working together. Their joint efforts ensure proper facilities and veterinary support for all participating animals.
Prize Structure and Breeds
A substantial cash prize pool will reward the top-performing dogs. The champion dog will receive Rs 25,000, while subsequent winners will get Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 5,000 respectively. This prize structure creates strong competition among participants.
Visitors can expect to see an impressive variety of breeds. The show will feature popular breeds like labrador, golden retriever, German shepherd, and rottweiler. It will also include less common breeds such as rajapalyam, Mudhol, and Beagle. Organizers anticipate showcasing over 300 dogs representing nearly 25 different breeds.
Special Attractions and Registration
The Dakshina Kannada police and Mangaluru city police will present a special dog show demonstration. This segment will highlight the working capabilities of police dogs and their training.
Interested participants must complete their registration by 5:00 PM on January 23. They can register online through the official website dkdogshow.com. Both participant registration and public entry remain completely free of charge, encouraging maximum participation.
Karavali Film Festival Announcement
Alongside the dog show, the Karavali Utsav will feature the Karavali Film Festival (KFF). This cinematic event will run from January 19 to 21 at Bharath Cinemas. Festival organizers plan to screen 18 movies originating from coastal districts.
The film selection includes four Kannada movies, eleven Tulu cinemas, two Konkani films, and one Beary movie. Special emphasis will be placed on Tulu films to promote the regional language and culture. Free entry will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis for all film screenings.
