Preparations are in full swing for the much-anticipated ninth edition of the Mangaluru Kambala, set to take place this Saturday at Goldfinch City in Bangrakuluru. The event, spearheaded by Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta, promises a vibrant showcase of traditional sports and Tulu heritage.
A Grand Inauguration and Cultural Immersion
According to MP Brijesh Chowta, the event will be inaugurated at 8.30 am on Saturday. A primary aim of this year's Kambala is to introduce and familiarise the younger generation with the rich tapestry of Tulu culture and traditional sports. The inauguration will feature a special performance where 150 students will render Vande Mataram to commemorate the song's 150-year legacy. The public is also encouraged to participate by singing and uploading their versions online.
Special Programs and Honours
A series of unique programs will mark this ninth edition. A highlight is the Rani Abbakka Historical Art Exhibition, organized in collaboration with Professor Tukaram Poojary of the Rani Abbakka Tulu Adhyanana Kendra, celebrating the queen's 500th birth anniversary. In line with community development, nine business achievers supporting the MP's 'Back to Uru' initiative will be honoured.
Embracing environmental and social responsibility, the event will distribute saplings inspired by PM Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. Reflecting its inclusive spirit, residents from city old-age homes have been invited to witness the races.

The Kambala will be a hub of creativity and competition. Attendees can look forward to a 'Rangd Koota' painting competition, a Mangaluru Kambala 2025 Reels Contest with prizes for the most-viewed videos, and a novel Photography and AI Creative Edition that invites AI-generated Kambala-themed artworks.
