Mangaluru to Host Major Bible Convention at Holy Cross Church Grounds

The coastal city of Mangaluru is set to host a significant religious gathering as the Mangalore Diocese prepares for a Mega Bible Convention. The event will take place at the open grounds of Holy Cross Church in Cordel, Kulshekar, spanning five days from February 26 to March 1.

Event Details and Theme

Organized by the Mangalore Diocese Charismatic Service Communion in collaboration with the Commission for Bible of the Diocese of Mangalore, the convention will run daily from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM. According to Mangalore Diocese Public Relations Officer Rev JB Saldanha, the convention follows the theme 'The Word of Christ dwells among you,' which originates from St Paul's Letter to the Colossians.

This theme was originally given by Pope Leo XIV for the celebration of Word of God Sunday in 2026. Rev Saldanha emphasized that the primary objective of the convention is to celebrate the presence of the Word of God among the faithful. The mission is to elucidate, through biblical teachings, how God accompanies individuals through life's various challenges, joys, and sorrows, guiding them toward a life that is pleasing to God.

Daily Schedule and Activities

Each day of the convention will feature a comprehensive program designed to foster spiritual growth and community engagement. The schedule includes:

  • Eucharistic celebrations
  • Meditation on the Holy Rosary
  • In-depth talks on selected themes, delivered in both Konkani and English
  • Readings and reflections on Bible passages
  • Eucharistic Adoration sessions
  • Praise and worship segments
  • Healing prayer services

To facilitate these activities, eight priests will be responsible for presenting the Word of God, while four priests will lead the Eucharistic adoration. Additionally, lay ministers will oversee prayerful singing, praise, and worship throughout all days of the event.

Expected Attendance and Preparations

Rev Saldanha anticipates that nearly 10,000 attendees from the Diocese's regions, including Dakshina Kannada, Kasaragod, and Udupi districts, will participate in the convention. Preparations are currently in full swing to ensure the event's successful organization, with efforts focused on logistics, security, and spiritual arrangements.

This convention represents a pivotal moment for the local Christian community, offering a platform for collective worship, learning, and reflection. It underscores the Diocese's commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of biblical teachings and enhancing spiritual well-being among its members.
