Murmu Praises Tribal Women's Skills at Kartika Jatra

President Droupadi Murmu recently highlighted the remarkable skill and self-reliance of tribal women from Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district during a major cultural gathering. The event, the inter-state folk cultural congregation known as 'Kartika Jatra', was held in Gumla, Jharkhand.

Celebrating Tribal Artistry and Women's Empowerment

During her address, the President took special note of the work done by women associated with 'Jashcraft'. She pointed out that their handmade jewellery and various eco-friendly products stand as shining examples of women-led empowerment initiatives. President Murmu described items crafted by the self-help group of Van Prabandhan Samiti Shabdmunda, based in village Kotanpani under the Jashpur Forest Division, as true symbols of tribal creativity and cultural preservation.

She emphasized that these efforts do more than create art; they actively enhance livelihood opportunities and provide much-deserved recognition to traditional handicrafts that are often passed down through generations. A key part of her message focused on the need to connect the youth with these rich tribal traditions. The President urged the younger generation to march towards modern development while consciously preserving their unique tribal heritage and identity.

Chhattisgarh's Pride and Cultural Bridge

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who was also present at the event in Manjhatoli, Jharkhand, stated that the President's appreciation is a matter of immense pride for the entire state. He noted that the jewellery and eco-friendly items prepared by the Kotanpani self-help group vividly reflect Chhattisgarh's deep cultural heritage and the innate creativity of its women.

CM Sai expressed confidence that this high-level encouragement will significantly strengthen the confidence of tribal women and bolster the collective resolve for a self-reliant India. He described the Kartika Jatra congregation as a vital bridge connecting diverse tribal communities across state lines.

Showcasing Heritage and National Recognition

The event itself was a vibrant display of tribal culture, featuring extensive exhibitions of tribal handicrafts and traditional folk art. The delegation from Chhattisgarh proudly showcased the unique craft traditions and local products originating from Jashpur district.

Chief Minister Sai also reminded attendees that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation now observes 15th November, the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. This national day of tribal pride underscores the government's focus on honoring and integrating tribal contributions into the mainstream narrative of India's progress.
