President of India Droupadi Murmu emphasized the critical role of timeless human values in the nation's development journey during a significant spiritual event in Karnataka. She addressed the gathering after inaugurating the 1066th Jayanthi celebrations of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji in Malavalli.
Blending Technology with Timeless Values for 2047
In her speech, President Murmu articulated a dual-path vision for national progress. She stated that as India advances towards the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, it requires both technological prowess and a strong ethical foundation. "As we move towards the vision of Developed India by 2047, we need both—the power of technology and the strength of values," she remarked.
She identified the nation's spiritual institutions as vital repositories of these essential principles. According to the President, these institutions remind society of the core values that unite humanity: compassion, tolerance, mutual respect, and collective responsibility.
Tribute to Saintly Legacy and Call to Institutions
President Murmu reflected on the enduring impact of saints and seers throughout history. "Across the ages, saints have enlightened humanity through their wisdom and compassion. Their lives remind us that true greatness lies not in authority or wealth, but in sacrifice, service, and spiritual strength," she observed.
She specifically highlighted the contributions of mutts and religious institutions to societal well-being and character building. Directing her message to bodies like the Suttur Mutt, she urged them to persist in their noble work: "I urge institutions like Suttur Mutt to continue inspiring young minds, nurturing responsible citizens, and guiding the architects of tomorrow's India."
Dignitaries Echo Sentiments on Spiritual Heritage
The event saw the presence of several prominent figures who echoed the President's emphasis on India's spiritual heritage. Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot praised Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji as a luminous pillar of India's saintly tradition. "His life was devoted to austerity, sacrifice, compassion, and public welfare. The essence of his spiritual pursuit was to awaken humanity within human beings," Governor Gehlot stated.
He further emphasized the timeless and universal nature of Indian culture, preserved by sages. "Our culture has always stood for universal brotherhood, peace, equality, and harmony. Today, many nations look towards India for spiritual and mental well-being," he added.
Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who also received birthday wishes from the President at the start of her address, recalled his family's long-standing bond with the Suttur Mutt. He described the President's visit as a landmark event for the institution and the region.
The ceremony was also attended by Suttur Mutt seer Shri Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami and district minister N Cheluvarayaswamy, among others, marking it as a significant confluence of spiritual and administrative leadership reinforcing a value-based path for national development.
