Nagpur's Poddareshwar Ram Mandir Celebrates 60 Years with Expansive Shobha Yatra
Nagpur is set to witness one of its most expansive Ram Navami processions as the Poddareshwar Ram Mandir marks 60 years of its iconic Shobha Yatra. The event will blend grand scale, deep symbolism, and evolving social narratives, creating a vibrant spectacle on Thursday.
Grand Scale and Symbolic Elements
Spanning 3.5 kilometers, the Shobha Yatra will feature an impressive array of elements. It will commence with the echo of 351 conch shells, followed by 94 elaborate jhankis rolling through the city streets. These tableaux will depict a wide range of religious and cultural themes, including Brij ki Holi, Mahakal Darshan, Radha-Krishna Rasleela, Indonesia's Bali traditions, and the Jagannath Rath.
A special jhanki by the kinnar community will be positioned at the 61st spot in the procession, highlighting inclusivity. Additionally, 108 young girls will carry mangal kalash, adding to the ceremonial grandeur. To manage this large-scale event, around 24,000 volunteers will be deployed along the route, ensuring smooth proceedings.
Dignitaries and Traditional Rituals
The Shobha Yatra will commence at around 4 PM following the traditional Rath Pujan. Maa Bhagawati, representing the balance of Shastra and Shaastra, will adorn the main rath. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and a host of other dignitaries are expected to attend, underscoring the event's significance.
The yatra will follow its customary route, covering Old Bhandara Road, Mahal and Gandhi Gate, Cotton Market, Variety Square, and then CA Road back to Ram Mandir. On Tuesday, Mayor Neeta Thakre reviewed the Shobha Yatra route to ensure proper arrangements.
Day-Long Celebrations and Modern Outreach
Ram Navami celebrations will begin with a Mangal Aarti at 4:30 AM, followed by Shrungar Aarti at 6 AM. Morning hours will feature cultural programs, including shehnai vadan and devotional kirtans, setting the tone for the day-long festivities. The event will be livestreamed on social media from 4 AM, allowing a global audience to partake in the celebrations.
