Bengaluru Residents in Pai Layout Protest Civic Neglect
Residents of Pai Layout in Bengaluru took to the streets on Sunday to protest against the persistent civic neglect in their locality. The demonstration, which saw participation from men, women, and children, highlighted the lack of basic amenities and deteriorating infrastructure in the area.
Demand for Safe Roads
Carrying placards that read 'We Want Safe Roads', the protesters demanded immediate action from the civic authorities. The residents pointed out that the roads in Pai Layout are riddled with potholes and lack proper lighting, posing a threat to commuters, especially during the night.
In addition to road safety, the protesters also raised concerns about the inadequate drainage system, irregular garbage collection, and the absence of streetlights in several parts of the layout. They urged the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to address these issues without further delay.
Community Unity
The protest was organized by the Pai Layout Residents Welfare Association, which has been making repeated representations to the local authorities. A spokesperson for the association said that despite several complaints, no concrete action has been taken so far. The residents have now decided to escalate their protest if their demands are not met within a week.
The demonstration remained peaceful, with participants blocking traffic for a brief period to draw attention to their cause. The police were present to ensure law and order.
Official Response
When contacted, a BBMP official said that the issues raised by the residents have been noted and will be addressed on a priority basis. However, the residents remain skeptical, stating that similar promises have been made in the past without any follow-through.
The protest in Pai Layout is a reflection of the growing frustration among Bengaluru's residents over the city's crumbling infrastructure and the slow pace of development. With the monsoon season approaching, the residents fear that the situation will worsen if immediate steps are not taken.
