Historic Gurudwara in Dibrugarh Welcomes New Guru Granth Sahib Scriptures
A significant religious ceremony took place on Sunday at the Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara in Dibrugarh, Assam, marking the installation of four new scriptures, known as swaroops, of the Guru Granth Sahib. The event attracted a large gathering of Sikh devotees from across the region, who assembled to witness this sacred occasion and offer their prayers.
A Century-Old Institution of Faith
Established in 1919, the gurudwara is now 107 years old and stands as one of the most revered Sikh places of worship in the area. The Guru Granth Sahib, regarded as the eternal guru by Sikhs, is accorded the utmost respect and reverence. Each swaroop comprises 1,430 pages of hymns and teachings, meticulously written in the Gurmukhi script, serving as a spiritual guide for the community.
Community Leaders Express Profound Gratitude
Jaspal Singh Bhurji, president of the Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara committee, described the day as one filled with profound grace. "This is a momentous day for our congregation. Every Sikh heart is filled with gratitude and humility today," he stated, highlighting the emotional significance of the event.
Committee secretary Rupa Rani Kaur echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the institution's longstanding service. "We are honoured to uphold the sanctity of this institution that has served the Sikh community for over a century. The installation of new swaroops renews our commitment to the guru's teachings," she added, underscoring the renewal of spiritual dedication.
Sacred Ritual for Retired Scriptures
In a parallel act of devotion, six old swaroops, which had become worn and damaged through years of continuous and devoted use, were respectfully sent for Sanskar. This sacred ritual, known as Agan Bheta, was conducted in strict accordance with established Sikh traditions, ensuring the dignified retirement of the aged scriptures.
The ceremony not only celebrated the addition of new spiritual texts but also honored the legacy of the old ones, reinforcing the community's deep-rooted faith and traditions. The event served as a powerful reminder of the enduring spiritual heritage that continues to thrive in Dibrugarh.
