Patna Hosts Spectacular Mahashivratri Mahotsav with Elaborate Processions and Political Dignitaries
In a vibrant display of devotion and cultural fervor, the Shri Shri Mahashivratri Mahotsav Shobhayatra Abhinandan Samiti organized a grand celebration at the Khajpura Shiv Temple in Patna on Sunday. The event drew significant attention with around 30 processions featuring intricate tableaux from various regions, all converging at the main venue by 5 PM.
High-Profile Attendance and Ceremonial Honors
The celebration was graced by prominent political figures, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and Union Minister Chirag Paswan. These leaders participated in the aarti ceremony and extended a warm welcome to the procession participants. Other notable attendees included former governor Ganga Prasad, JD(U) national executive president Sanjay Jha, and committee coordinator Sanjeev Chaurasia.
To honor the efforts of the participating committees, organizers presented mementoes, medals, and stoles. Additionally, mahaprasad was distributed among devotees, fostering a sense of community and spiritual sharing.
Diverse Processions and Thematic Tableaux
The processions showcased participants from cities such as Kolkata, Raipur, Dhanbad, and Hazaribagh, highlighting the event's widespread appeal. The tableaux depicted various religious and social themes, including the wedding of Shiva and Parvati, the Somnath temple, and the Mahakal of Ujjain. The first tableau to arrive was from the Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya, setting a reverent tone for the festivities.
Other displays focused on contemporary issues like de-addiction, tree plantation, and the cleanliness of the Ganges, blending traditional spirituality with modern social consciousness. Themes such as the descent of the Ganges, the Ardhanarishwar form, and the churning of the ocean were also vividly portrayed.
Elaborate Venue Setup and Cultural Performances
The Khajpura temple premises were transformed with three distinct stages to accommodate various activities. The main stage featured a towering 33-foot-high Shivling, serving as a focal point for devotion. On the second stage, a Ganga Aarti was performed accompanied by Vedic chants, while the third stage hosted a bhajan programme that began with Ganesh Vandana.
In the evening, a dynamic Tandav dance performance captivated the audience, adding a cultural highlight to the religious observances. The event was streamed live on social media and displayed on LED screens installed at the temple, ensuring wider accessibility for devotees unable to attend in person.
Comprehensive Security and Early Morning Rituals
Security arrangements were meticulously overseen by police personnel, NCC cadets, and scout guides, with continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras to ensure a safe environment for all attendees. Earlier in the day, the assembly Speaker and various ministers flagged off processions from locations including Adalatganj, Danapur, Yaarpur, Indrapuri, Rajiv Nagar, and Kankarbagh. Leaders present at these flag-off events included Ram Kripal Yadav, Ritu Raj Sinha, and Naval Kishore Yadav.
Devotees began their rituals at the Khajpura temple as early as 4 AM, with the temple gates remaining open for public water offerings until 6 PM. This was followed by preparations for Shringar, Rudrabhishek, and the midnight wedding rituals, marking the culmination of the day's spiritual activities.
