PM Modi to Inaugurate Samrat Samprati Museum in Ahmedabad on Mahavir Jayanti

On the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, also known as Janmakalyanak, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Samrat Samprati Museum in Koba, Ahmedabad, on March 31. The inauguration ceremony will be graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Acharya Padmasagarsuri from Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhna Kendra, Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Sudhir Mehta, President of Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhna Kendra.

Dedicated to a Great Jain Figure

Officials have revealed that the museum is dedicated to the life and enduring values of Samrat Samprati Maharaj, who reigned from 224 to 215 BC. As the grandson of the renowned Emperor Ashoka, Samrat Samprati Maharaj is celebrated as a significant figure in Jainism and a staunch preacher of non-violence. His legacy is now immortalized through this cultural institution.

A Treasure Trove of Jain Heritage

Constructed with the generous support of the UNM Foundation, part of the Torrent Group, the museum serves as a custodian of centuries-old rare ancient relics and Jain artifacts. It meticulously preserves traditional heritage across seven expansive galleries. The collections on display are diverse and historically rich, featuring stone and metal idols, massive Tirth Patta and Yantra Patta, exquisite miniature paintings, ornate silver chariots, ancient coins, and invaluable manuscripts.

Realizing a Six-Decade Dream

The museum represents the lifelong dream of Acharya Padmasagarsuri, who has traversed approximately 200,000 kilometers across India and Nepal over six decades. His dedicated efforts have amassed a priceless collection of cultural relics, now housed in this museum. The seven galleries offer a comprehensive journey through Jainism, including an introduction to Jain philosophy, tales of the Tirthankara, ancient statues and manuscripts, depictions of protective deities, Yantra images, maps, Jain aagamas, Mughal-era edicts such as Emperor Akbar's farmaan, Rajat Rath, models of Jain temples, intricate woodwork, texts from various centuries, and a vast array of coins.

A Beacon of Heritage and Modernity

In a statement, Sudhir Mehta expressed that "this museum will become a beacon of our shared heritage and inspire generations to explore India's spiritualism, culture, and art." The UNM Foundation will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the museum, ensuring its preservation for future generations.

Blending Tradition with Technology

An official from Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhna Kendra highlighted that "the Samrat Samprati Museum is a unique amalgamation of India's ancient tradition and modernity." It integrates cutting-edge audio-visual technology, spiritual music, and immersive presentations to provide a contemporary experience for visitors, researchers, and scholars. Beyond its visual appeal, the museum offers a profound spiritual journey, conveying eternal values such as non-violence, restraint, and compassion to society.

This inauguration marks a significant cultural milestone, celebrating Jain heritage while promoting India's rich spiritual and artistic traditions on a global stage.
