Prayagraj Creates Dedicated Township for 12-Year Kalpavasis After Maha Kumbh 2025
Prayagraj Sets Up Prayagwal Nagar for Magh Mela Kalpavasis

In a significant move to accommodate a rising number of dedicated pilgrims, the administration of the Magh Mela in Prayagraj has established a separate, sprawling township exclusively for kalpavasis – devotees observing a month-long austere vow. This initiative comes in direct response to the increased participation following the grand Maha Kumbh 2025 and the sacred tradition of the 12-year kalpavas pledge.

A New Home for Devotees: Prayagwal Nagar

The newly developed area, named Prayagwal Nagar, spans an impressive 950 bighas of land. It has been strategically set up on the banks of the Ganga, directly opposite the Nagavasuki Temple. The location and planning were finalized after thorough consultations with the pilgrimage priests to ensure it meets the spiritual and practical needs of the devotees.

Explaining the rationale behind this large-scale project, ADM (Magh Mela) Dayanand Prasad stated that the successful and divine Maha Kumbh of 2025, coupled with the tradition of taking the 12-year kalpavas vow, led to a noticeable surge in the number of kalpawasis arriving for this year's Magh Mela. "Considering this increased footfall, a separate township was deemed necessary," Prasad affirmed.

Focused Care and Special Arrangements

Beyond the main township, the mela authorities have made additional provisions to cater to the pilgrims' comfort. Keeping in mind the demands and convenience of the priests guiding these devotees, tents have also been erected for kalpavasis in other sectors of the mela grounds.

The administration is paying particular attention to the well-being of the elderly and those with specific physical needs. Their accommodation is being carefully arranged, considering factors like age and health conditions. Furthermore, in view of the ongoing cold wave conditions, plans are actively being made to provide bonfires at the campsites of the kalpavasis, offering crucial warmth, especially for the older pilgrims.

A Model for Future Pilgrimage Management

The creation of Prayagwal Nagar represents a proactive step in managing one of the world's largest religious gatherings. It highlights a shift towards more organized and humane infrastructure for long-term devotees. By providing a dedicated space with essential amenities, the administration aims to facilitate a smoother and more spiritually fulfilling experience for those undertaking the rigorous kalpavas during the Magh Mela, setting a potential benchmark for future mela arrangements.
