Prem Nazir Memorial Cultural Complex Inaugurated in Chirayinkeezhu
Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian inaugurated the first phase of the Prem Nazir Memorial Cultural Complex on Wednesday evening at 5 PM. The event took place in Chirayinkeezhu, the hometown of the legendary Malayalam cinema actor Prem Nazir, honoring his enduring legacy in the film industry.
Dignitaries and Program Highlights
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by MLA V Sasi, with MP Adoor Prakash serving as the chief guest. Director of the Cultural Affairs Department, Divya S Iyer, delivered the welcome address, while Film Academy Chairperson Resul Pookutty provided an introductory speech, celebrating Nazir's contributions to cinema.
Alongside the inauguration, a photo exhibition titled "Nithyaharitham" was launched, showcasing timeless moments from Prem Nazir's extensive film career. This exhibition aims to preserve and highlight the actor's iconic roles and memorable performances for fans and future generations.
Funding and Construction Details
The first phase of the memorial complex has an estimated total cost of Rs 5.4 crore. Funding for this phase included an allocation of Rs 1.32 crore from the State Cultural Affairs Department and Rs 1.58 crore utilized from the asset development fund of Chirayinkeezhu MLA V Sasi. Construction for the second phase, which is currently underway, is projected to cost an additional Rs 2.5 crore, indicating a significant investment in commemorating the actor's legacy.
The complex is designed to serve as a cultural hub, promoting arts and heritage in the region, and stands as a tribute to Prem Nazir, often referred to as the evergreen actor of Malayalam cinema for his prolific and impactful career.
