In Prayagraj on Monday, Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati of Govardhan Math in Puri, Odisha, delivered a powerful message. He highlighted India's enduring spiritual significance in today's modern world.
India's Global Spiritual Center
The Shankaracharya stated that even in this era of rockets, computers, and atomic bombs, India remains a central hub of faith for the entire world. He pointed out that the Lord of the Universe himself was born here. The world acknowledges and respects India's intellectual prowess, he added.
Call for Political Integrity
Swami Nischalananda Saraswati urged politicians to stay away from the lust for power. He emphasized that subject matter experts should be included in the cabinet to ensure effective governance.
Devotion to Sanatana Principles
He stressed that India should remain devoted to the Sanatana principles. The entire world is looking towards India for guidance, he noted. The authenticity of these principles is proven through philosophy, science, and practice.
Cow Protection Proposal
On the issue of cow protection, the Shankaracharya proposed specific measures. He said that for the protection of cows, grazing land should be reserved in every district of all states across the country.
Every district should have a centre with a part of the land reserved for cows to roam freely. This initiative aims to safeguard these revered animals.
Importance of Kalpavas
Explaining the significance of Kalpavas, a period of religious observance, the Puri Shankaracharya detailed its benefits. Observing Kalpavas with proper discipline and bathing at the confluence of rivers paves the way for both worldly and spiritual progress.
Warning on Development
Swami Nischalananda Saraswati also cautioned against modern development trends. He said that turning a place of penance into a tourist centre means transforming it into a place of indulgence.
Today, this is what is often called development, but in reality, it represents destruction. He urged preserving the sanctity of such spiritual sites.
The Shankaracharya's remarks underscore a call for balancing tradition with contemporary challenges. His advocacy for cow protection and spiritual integrity resonates with ongoing discussions in Indian society.
