Lucknow witnessed a vibrant display of Bengali culture and tradition during Rabindra Sandhya, an event organized to commemorate the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The celebration took place at Vishveshwarya Hall on Sunday, drawing art lovers, theatre enthusiasts, and members of the Bengali community. The hall resonated with Tagore's timeless literary and musical legacy throughout the evening.
Event Highlights
The event was organized by the Bengali Welfare Society and featured a variety of cultural programs. A major highlight was the staging of Tagore's celebrated play 'Mahamaya' by the New Delhi-based theatre group Japonchitro. The powerful performances, marked by evocative dialogues and compelling acting, received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Musical Performances
The musical segment featured singer Sraboni Sen, who mesmerized attendees with soulful renditions of Rabindra Sangeet. Her velvety voice captivated the crowd, adding a melodic charm to the evening.
Awards Conferred
The prestigious Rabindra Samman 2026 was conferred upon veteran actor and dramatist Padma Shri Anil Rastogi, as well as sarod maestro Abhijit Roy Chaudhary. Both were recognized for their outstanding contributions to art and culture.
