Rajasthan Day Celebrations Illuminate Jaipur with Grand Folk Culture Extravaganza
On the occasion of Rajasthan Day, the city of Jaipur witnessed a magnificent celebration of its rich folk culture, with over 100 folk artists taking center stage at the historic Albert Hall on Thursday. The cultural evening was adorned with colorful presentations and traditional folk arts, leaving the audience spellbound and immersed in the state's heritage.
Padma Shri Awardees Lead the Performances
The highlight of the event was the stellar performances by Padma Shri awardees Anwar Khan Manganiyar and Tagaram Bhil, who showcased their exceptional talents to a captivated crowd. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa, welcomed the artists and felicitated the Padma Shri recipients on stage, honoring their contributions to Rajasthan's cultural legacy.
Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari extended a warm welcome to CM Sharma upon his arrival at the celebrations. Speaking on the occasion, she emphasized the significance of the event, stating, "This year, we are celebrating Rajasthan Day on March 19 instead of March 30 in accordance with the date of the Hindu New Year." She added that this celebration reflects the immense pride of the state and its people, reinforcing the cultural identity of Rajasthan.
Spectacular Showcase of Traditional Dances and Arts
The programme featured a diverse array of traditional performances, including:
- Ghoomar, a graceful folk dance performed by women
- Kalbelia, known for its serpentine movements
- Chari, involving balancing pots on the head
- Kachchhi Ghodi, a mock horse dance
- Bhavai, a balancing act with pots
- Chang-Dhap, a rhythmic drum performance
- Kathak, a classical dance form
Artists also showcased Jaipur's Gangaur tableau on stage, presenting it while simultaneously performing intricate dance sequences. Additionally, a glimpse of Maharana Pratap's valour and martial prowess was vividly portrayed through artistic performances, adding a historical dimension to the evening.
Grand Finale and Parallel Celebrations in Jodhpur
The programme concluded with a spectacular fireworks display that illuminated the night sky, drawing all eyes upward in awe. The vibrant lights and sounds marked a fitting end to a day filled with cultural richness and communal pride.
In a parallel celebration, Jodhpur hosted a grand cultural evening at the Marwar International Center, organized by the department of tourism and the district administration. Governor Haribhau Bagde attended as the chief guest, with Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, State Education Minister Madan Dilawar, and Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Gehlot also present. This event further highlighted the statewide enthusiasm for Rajasthan Day, showcasing the unity and diversity of the region's traditions.
