Former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has raised serious questions regarding the alleged misappropriation of Rs 5,000 crore under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, directly targeting current Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. Speaking to the media, Kumaraswamy said, 'The Chief Minister has stated that bribes should not be accepted inside the office. Does this imply that it is acceptable to receive bribes outside the office?'
Kumaraswamy's Sharp Attack
Kumaraswamy, who is also the state president of the Janata Dal (Secular), criticized Shivakumar's recent statements on corruption. He alleged that the ruling Congress government has failed to transparently utilize the funds allocated for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, which is meant to provide financial assistance to women.
'Where has the Rs 5,000 crore of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme gone? The Chief Minister must provide a clear explanation to the people of Karnataka,' Kumaraswamy demanded. He further accused the government of indulging in corruption while making public statements against it.
Political Implications
The Gruha Lakshmi scheme, a flagship program of the Congress government, aims to provide Rs 2,000 per month to women heads of households. However, opposition parties have repeatedly questioned its implementation and fund utilization.
Kumaraswamy's remarks come amid growing tensions between the ruling Congress and the opposition JD(S) and BJP. Political analysts believe this could further strain the already fragile political dynamics in the state.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivakumar has not yet responded to Kumaraswamy's allegations. The Congress party is expected to hold a press conference later today to address the issue.
