Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi delivered a significant address on the nature of Sanatana Dharma, emphasizing its inclusive character, during a major religious event in Mayiladuthurai on Sunday.
Sanatana Dharma Embraces Even Its Critics: Governor
Speaking at the Mani Vizha, the 60th anniversary celebration of Dharmapuram Adheenam Seer Srilasri Kailai Masilamani Desiga Gnanasambanda Paramachariya Swamigal, Governor Ravi provided a unique definition. He stated that Sanatana, meaning eternal, does not exclude anyone. "It is all-inclusive. It does not leave out anyone. Even those who do not believe, even those who call Sanatana dengue or malaria, we treat them as ours, because Sanatana cannot exclude them," the Governor explained at the event held at Dharmapuram Adheenam Arts College.
Praise for PM Modi's Tamil Legacy and Sengol
In his speech, Governor Ravi recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to install the historic Sengol in the new Parliament building. The Sengol was originally presented by the Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam during India's Independence. The Governor highlighted that PM Modi invited heads of several Shaivite mutts, including the Dharmapuram Adheenam Seer, to the installation ceremony.
Ravi described the Prime Minister as a "great lover of the Tamil language" and credited him with unprecedented promotion of Tamil over the past eleven years. "The way Narendra Modi has promoted Tamil, I don't think anyone who claims to serve the language has done even 10% of what he has achieved," the Governor asserted.
Call for Aadheenams' Role in National Development
The Governor commended the Dharmapuram Adheenam for its enduring work in promoting Tamil language and supporting charitable initiatives. Looking ahead, he outlined a vision for the nation and the role of religious institutions. "By 2047, Bharat must become a fully developed, self-reliant nation and also a Vishwa Guru and Vishwa Vidya. Aadheenams must play a greater role in this mission," Ravi urged the gathering.
During the event, the Governor participated in a philanthropic drive, distributing assistive devices to people with disabilities on behalf of the Adheenam. He also presented translated copies of books released by the Adheenam to the guests.
The function saw the presence of other distinguished personalities including Kunnakudi Tiruvannamalai Adheenam Seer Kunnakudi Ponnambala Adigalar and former Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice S Vaidyanathan, who also addressed the assembly.
