SPIC MACAY's Music in the Park Series Reaches 22-Year Milestone
For more than two decades, the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) has been actively working to transcend the traditional boundaries of Indian classical music. Through its extensive community outreach programs across the nation, the organization has successfully moved performances from conventional auditoriums into vibrant public spaces, fostering a broader appreciation for the art form.

This year, the series proudly commemorates its 22nd anniversary at Nehru Park in Delhi, marking a significant milestone in its journey of bringing classical music closer to the public.
The recent season showcased an impressive lineup of renowned artists, captivating music enthusiasts and reaffirming the timeless appeal of classical melodies presented in open, accessible environments. Performers included flautist Rakesh Chaurasia, Hindustani vocalist Ulhas Kashalkar, Carnatic vocalist Sanjay Subrahmanyan, and violinist N. Rajam. Each concert was met with enthusiastic reception, highlighting the enduring connection between audiences and classical traditions.

During the series, veteran Hindustani vocalist Ulhas Kashalkar delivered a mesmerizing performance, expertly accompanied by Suresh Talwalkar on the Tabla and Vinay Mishra on the Harmonium. Subramaniam, vocalist Shubha Mudgal, thumri exponent Girija Devi, and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain have all graced the stage.
