Suttur Witnesses Grand Celebration of Shivaratri Shivayogi Rathotsava

Thousands of devotees filled the streets of Suttur on Saturday. They celebrated the Shivaratri Shivayogi Rathotsava with great enthusiasm. The event featured vibrant cultural performances and deep religious fervor.

Morning Rituals Set the Tone

The day began early with sacred rituals. At 6 am, priests performed a Rudrabhisheka at the shrine. The deity's shrine was beautifully adorned for the occasion. Worship ceremonies continued throughout the morning.

At 8:30 am, royal honors were bestowed upon the presiding deity. This traditional ceremony added to the spiritual atmosphere. Devotees watched with reverence as the rituals unfolded.

The Grand Chariot Procession

The highlight came at 10:30 am. The idol of Shivayogi was carefully placed in the massive chariot. At 11 am, the procession officially began. Junior Sri Shiv Siddheshwara Swami of Siddaganga Math led the prayers.

Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, seer of the Suttur mutt, also offered prayers. Together, they pulled the chariot to commence the Rathotsava. As the chariot started moving, 21 ceremonial cannons fired in celebration.

Thousands of devotees immediately grabbed the massive chariot rope. They pulled with all their strength to fulfill their religious vows. The sound of chanting filled the air as the chariot moved forward.

Devotional Expressions Along the Route

Devotees offered fruits and coconuts to the moving chariot. This traditional gesture showed their deep respect and devotion. Many expressed satisfaction after fulfilling their long-held vows.

As they pulled, devotees chanted praises for the monastery's lineage. Their voices rose together in devotional songs. The chariot moved steadily along the royal path, surrounded by faithful followers.

About 40 cultural troupes participated in the disciplined procession. The Nandi Dhwaja dance led the way, setting a majestic tone. Artistes danced energetically to drum beats, captivating the audience.

Performers dressed as Veerabhadra drew particular attention. Their rhythmic steps and traditional costumes added to the visual spectacle. Various other performances enriched the celebration.

Several notable figures witnessed the grand celebration. C Somasekhar, president of Akhila Bharat Sharana Sahitya Parishat, attended the event. NASA scientist Shivaanand was present among the devotees. Mysuru regional commissioner Nitesh Patil also graced the occasion with his presence.
