Trichy Clears Encroachments Ahead of Vaikunta Ekadasi at Srirangam Temple
Trichy Removes Stalls for Srirangam Temple Festival Crowds

Ahead of the major Vaikunta Ekadasi festival, the Trichy Corporation has undertaken a significant drive to clear encroachments from key areas surrounding the renowned Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple. This proactive measure aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and safe crowd movement for the thousands of devotees expected to attend the celebrations.

Key Areas Targeted in Eviction Drive

The municipal eviction operation focused on several crucial streets and access points around the temple complex. Thiruvadi Street, Mela Vaasal, Moolathoppu, Vadakku Vaasal, and Sathara Veethi Road were all covered in this initiative. The action led to the removal of numerous roadside stalls, wheel carts, and small temporary shops. These included vendors selling flowers and vegetables, as well as puncture repair units operating on public pathways.

Local authorities have explicitly instructed all vendors to refrain from occupying roads and footpaths throughout the festival period. A corporation official acknowledged the persistent nature of the issue, stating, "With heavy footfall expected, the drive is aimed at preventing congestion, though vendors tend to return after such operations." The move is seen as essential for managing the anticipated surge in visitors.

Comprehensive Festival Arrangements and Security

The Vaikunta Ekadasi festival at the Srirangam temple is scheduled to run from Friday, December 30, until January 9. The most significant day, Paramapatha Vasal, falls on December 30, which is expected to draw the largest crowds. In preparation, District Collector V. Saravanan has personally reviewed all arrangements.

A series of robust measures have been ordered to ensure devotee safety and convenience. These include:

  • Deployment of mobile toilet units within the temple premises.
  • Positioning of fire engines and medical teams with ambulances on standby.
  • Coordination with transport authorities for enhanced services.

Enhanced Transport Services for Devotees

To facilitate the travel of pilgrims, special transport arrangements have been put in place. The railways will operate special trains on December 29, 30, and 31. Additionally, the state transport corporation will run extra bus services to and from Srirangam to manage the increased passenger load efficiently. These steps are designed to provide a seamless and secure pilgrimage experience for all attendees during this auspicious period.
