Uttar Pradesh is rapidly transforming into a major tourism destination, a significant shift from its previous perception as a backward state. This declaration came from the state's Tourism and Culture Minister, Jaiveer Singh, during the inauguration of the Gorakhpur Mahotsav.
From 'Bimaru' to Booming: A State's Transformation
Addressing a crowd at Champa Devi Park near Ramgarh Tal on Sunday, Minister Jaiveer Singh highlighted the remarkable journey of Uttar Pradesh. He noted that before 2017, the state was frequently labeled as part of the 'Bimaru' region, a term denoting economic stagnation. However, he asserted that rapid development is now clearly visible, driven by a marked improvement in law and order and focused governance under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The state government is making consistent efforts to promote its rich tapestry of tourism and culture. Festivals like the Gorakhpur Mahotsav play a pivotal role in this strategy, serving as a platform to display Uttar Pradesh's diverse cultural heritage to national and international audiences.
Gorakhpur Mahotsav: A Catalyst for Culture and Economy
The minister emphasized that the festival is not merely a cultural event but a powerful economic engine. It helps in preserving traditional arts while simultaneously strengthening local employment and boosting economic activities through increased tourism. The event provides a dedicated stage for Purvanchal's unique folk traditions, local cuisine, traditional arts, and indigenous products.
This initiative offers much-needed encouragement and exposure to local artists and craftsmen. A variety of exhibitions have been organized as part of the festival, drawing appreciative crowds. These displays include:
- Handicrafts and traditional arts
- Books and literary works
- Khadi and ODOP (One District One Product) items
- Local and regional cuisine
- Tourism opportunities across the state
The seven-day festival is packed with a diverse range of cultural, literary, and entertainment programs, offering visitors a vibrant glimpse into the state's cultural diversity.
Broad-Based Development Gains Recognition
Echoing the minister's sentiments, MP Ravi Kishan Shukla stated that under CM Yogi Adityanath's guidance, both Gorakhpur and Uttar Pradesh are achieving new peaks of development. He pointed out that this progress is not limited to physical infrastructure and industry but also extends to creating substantial opportunities for the youth in fields like arts, sports, and entrepreneurship.
The concerted push for cultural tourism, exemplified by events like the Gorakhpur Mahotsav, signifies a holistic approach to development. It aims to leverage the state's immense historical and cultural capital to fuel economic growth, empower local communities, and reshape its national image.
