Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust Marks 7th Anniversary with Grand Celebrations in Udupi

The Karkala Palli–Ninjur unit of the Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust, based in Mangaluru, celebrated its seventh anniversary in a vibrant event held near Ramakrishna Sabhabhavan at Bailoor Palli in Udupi on Sunday. The occasion was presided over by the foundation's founder-president, Patla Satish Shetty, who highlighted the trust's ongoing commitment to supporting the arts and community welfare.

Honoring Excellence in Education and Performing Arts

During the ceremony, several distinguished personalities from the fields of education, Yakshagana, and theatre were felicitated in the presence of dignitaries. The honorees included:

  • Nagaratna MR, headmistress of Govt Higher Primary School, Palli, recognized for her contributions to education.
  • Ratnakara Amin, president and organiser of Sri Rama Yakshagana Kalabhimani Balaga, celebrated for his dedication to Yakshagana.
  • Pavanje Mela artist Mahalinga Nayak Nirchalu and Daiva Nartaka Uggappa Parava Kervashe, acknowledged for their artistic prowess.
  • Theatre artists Prajwal Bhandary Kaudoor and Sachin Acharya of Kaudoor, honored for their work in regional theatre.

Financial Assistance Extended to Artists in Need

In a significant gesture of support, the foundation provided financial aid to artists facing medical emergencies and hardships. Yakshagana artist Shashikanth Shetty of Karkala, who is currently undergoing treatment for an illness, received Rs 25,000 through his wife Devika. Additionally, artist Dinesh Bangera was granted Rs 1 lakh for a medical emergency, while another artist named Shiva also received financial assistance to help alleviate his difficulties.

Cultural Programme Showcases Yakshagana Talent

The anniversary celebrations featured a rich cultural programme that highlighted the traditional art form of Yakshagana. Students from Govt Higher Primary School, Palli, who are learning Yakshagana under the Yakshadhruva Yaksha Shikshana initiative, presented the Yakshagana prasanga titled 'Shyamantaka Ratna'. This performance was followed by a captivating Yakshagana Bayalata by the Pavanje Mela troupe, which staged 'Gajendra Moksha – Kamsa Vadhe – Agrapooje', enthralling the audience with their dynamic and expressive storytelling.

The event underscored the foundation's dedication to preserving and promoting cultural heritage while providing crucial support to artists in times of need, reinforcing its role as a pillar of the community in Udupi and beyond.
