Bombay Times Life.Styled Club Hosts Third Edition of Mahjong & Mocha in Powai
The Bombay Times Life.Styled Club successfully curated the third edition of its popular Mahjong & Mocha event at Bayroute in Powai, Mumbai. This unique gathering was designed to foster a relaxed afternoon where conversation, genuine connection, and leisure took center stage, offering a refreshing break from the digital world.
A Tactile Escape from Digital Distractions
The event masterfully paired the rhythmic, tactile experience of playing Mahjong with free-flowing mocha beverages and easy camaraderie. In a deliberate move to encourage real-world interaction, participants were encouraged to set their phones aside. The distinctive sound of tiles clicking across tables filled the air as cups were refilled, and strangers quickly transformed into companions through shared gameplay.
For first-time participant Mikhael Kantroo, the experience proved to be both engaging and refreshing. "I have always loved playing board games; this was a lot like rummy—with sequences and all—and it really required focus," he said. "It's a good way to stay away from your phone. It is just as la-di-da as it looks in pictures—very aesthetic, a perfect afternoon get-together. I was here with my wife, and we'll definitely do Mahjong afternoons at home."
Newcomers Drawn by Visual Appeal and Energetic Vibe
Another newcomer, Pooja Waghela, was captivated by both the visual appeal and the dynamic energy of the game. "I've never played this before—it was a completely new experience for me," she shared. "The Mahjong board looked so colourful. The vibe was quite energetic in there." Her comments highlight how the event successfully attracted individuals curious about the game's cultural and social aspects.
Enthusiastic Response from Mahjong Partners
From the perspective of the Mahjong partners, the enthusiasm among attendees was unmistakable. Representatives from The Boardroom Mahjong, Sucheta Kaushik, Salome Vora, and Karishma Hingorani, noted the palpable excitement. "There was excitement on every table," they observed. "The good thing was that people wanted to play the entire game, not just stop at the introductory round. They realised it's an intelligent game and they enjoyed it." The event was also held in association with The Mahjong Network, founded by Ria Bajaj, Ishira Kumar, and Maneka Jain Daswani.
Thoughtful Touches and a Sweet Conclusion
Adding a thoughtful layer to the afternoon, gifting partner Surasa Life contributed a sweet touch that complemented the overall experience. The event was as much about slowing down and savoring the moment as it was about the gameplay itself. In essence, Mahjong & Mocha served as a gentle yet powerful reminder that the best human connections often flourish when digital devices are set aside, traditional games are brought out, and time is allowed to feel a little less rushed.
This edition reinforced the event's growing reputation as a sought-after social occasion in Mumbai's calendar, blending intellectual stimulation with relaxed socialization in an aesthetically pleasing setting.
