Overcoming Life's Challenges: Why 'Difficult' Is a Matter of Perspective

In a recent encounter, I met a young employee from a multinational corporation who expressed frustration over being overlooked for a promotion while his colleagues advanced. He lamented that his boss favored others, denying him the recognition he felt he deserved. My advice to him was straightforward: instead of focusing on complaints about his superior, he should channel his energy into enhancing his own performance. By doing so, he would naturally compel his boss to acknowledge his contributions, potentially securing future promotions that were currently out of reach.

The Common Response: Acknowledgment with Hesitation

Upon hearing this, the employee replied, "You are right, but that would be very difficult to do." This reaction is not unique to workplace scenarios. In various contexts, whether individuals are fighting for their rights, battling negativity, or striving for personal goals, the suggestion to rely on self-effort and struggle often meets with similar resistance. People tend to agree in principle but balk at the perceived difficulty, saying things like, "You are right, but that would be very difficult."

Debunking the Myth of Difficulty

The notion that something is "very difficult" is, in fact, a flawed conception. What many label as difficult is often the only viable option available. Our world inherently requires us to make challenging choices. The key is not to avoid difficulty but to assess which options are realistically achievable. Ignoring this principle means going against reality—a stance no one can afford to maintain.

Moreover, the term "difficult" is relative. A task becomes difficult only when one feels unable to manage it. If you can handle a problem effectively, it ceases to be difficult. Instead of uttering, "It is difficult," cultivate a wisdom that surpasses all obstacles. This shift in perspective is crucial for personal development.

The Art of Problem Management

Life is fundamentally a matter of management. By learning the art of problem management, you can navigate all difficulties with efficacy. The concept of difficulty stems primarily from one's way of thinking. Alter your mindset, and you will soon discover that what once seemed insurmountable has vanished. Embrace this approach to transform challenges into opportunities for growth and success.
