Ambardhi Safari Park Records Significant 18.6% Annual Visitor Growth, Emerges as Viable Sasan Gir Alternative
Ahmedabad: The Ambardi Safari Park in Dhari has demonstrated remarkable growth, with an 18.6% surge in annual visitors, establishing itself as a compelling alternative to the traditional Sasan Gir circuit for Asiatic lion enthusiasts. According to official data presented in the Gujarat assembly by Forest Minister Arjun Modhwadia, the park welcomed a total of 2.07 lakh visitors over the two-year period commencing January 1, 2024.
Detailed Visitor Statistics and Revenue Generation
The comprehensive figures reveal a consistent upward trajectory in footfall. Visitor numbers increased from 94,824 in 2024 to 1,12,545 in 2025, marking the substantial 18.6% growth rate. This impressive surge in tourism has translated into significant financial benefits, with the park generating approximately Rs 3.5 crore in revenue during this period. The park's strategic location has cemented its position as a crucial stop for tourists traveling toward Diu and Tulshishyam who wish to experience Asiatic lions without undertaking the longer detour to Sasan Gir.
International Visitor Presence and Daily Averages
Despite the strong domestic performance, the park's international footprint remains minimal. Only 28 foreign tourists visited throughout the entire 24-month duration, with a mere one international visitor recorded in 2024. In his response to a query from Dhari MLA Jaysukh Kakadia, Minister Modhwadia highlighted that the park maintains a steady daily average of 284 tourists, indicating consistent local and domestic interest.
Expansion of Safari Facilities in the Region
To accommodate the growing demand for lion-viewing experiences, the minister also provided updates on regional infrastructure. The Girnar Safari, recognized as the area's third dedicated lion-viewing facility, is currently operational and equipped with 10 jeeps to manage visitor flow. This development underscores the Gujarat government's commitment to enhancing wildlife tourism infrastructure while distributing tourist pressure across multiple locations.
