Arunachal Govt Commits to Develop Walong as Major Tourism Hub
Arunachal to Develop Walong as Tourism Destination

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has announced the state government's determined push to develop Walong in Anjaw district into a premier historical and tourism destination. The declaration came during the 63rd commemoration ceremony of the historic Battle of Walong held on Sunday.

Major Initiatives for Tourism Development

During his participation in the solemn event, Deputy CM Mein revealed several key initiatives that the government is implementing to boost Walong's tourism potential. The annual Sunrise Festival, establishment of a war memorial museum, and significant improvements in both digital and road connectivity form the core of this development strategy.

Mein emphasized that this year's commemoration has been the most elaborate to date, reflecting the government's increased commitment to preserving and promoting the region's military heritage. He affirmed that the tradition of honoring India's war heroes would continue with even greater determination in the coming years.

Remembering the 1962 Battle of Walong

Recalling one of the most courageous chapters in India's military history, Mein highlighted the extraordinary bravery displayed by Indian soldiers during the 1962 conflict. Approximately 800 Indian soldiers held their positions for 27 days against overwhelming odds of 4,000 enemy troops across the challenging terrain of Kibithoo, Namti, and the Tri-Junction areas.

The Deputy CM paid heartfelt homage to the soldiers who demonstrated exceptional courage and devotion to the nation under extremely difficult circumstances. Their resilience in the face of superior numbers and harsh conditions remains a testament to the Indian armed forces' valor.

Transforming Historical Legacy into Tourism Asset

The government's comprehensive approach aims to leverage Walong's rich historical significance while creating modern tourism infrastructure. The planned war memorial museum will serve as an educational center, preserving the memory of the brave soldiers and their sacrifices for future generations.

The annual Sunrise Festival, combined with enhanced connectivity projects, is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists to experience Walong's unique blend of natural beauty and historical importance. These developments position Walong as an emerging must-visit destination in Northeast India.
