Char Dham Yatra 2026: Online Registration to Open on March 6, Pilgrimage Set for April 19 Start
In a significant announcement for devotees, officials in Dehradun have confirmed that online registration for the highly anticipated Char Dham Yatra 2026 will commence from March 6. This marks a crucial step as preparations for the annual pilgrimage enter their final phase, ensuring a smooth and organized experience for the millions of pilgrims expected to participate.
Pilgrimage Schedule and Shrine Openings
The sacred journey for the 2026 season is scheduled to begin on April 19, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya. On this date, the portals of two key shrines, Gangotri and Yamunotri, will be ceremonially opened to devotees. Following this, the doors of the remaining two shrines, Kedarnath and Badrinath, will open subsequently, adhering to traditional timings and religious protocols.
Registration Process and Official Statements
Tourism Secretary Dhiraaj Singh Garbyal provided detailed insights into the arrangements, emphasizing that systems are being meticulously put in place to facilitate hassle-free registration and travel. "Preparations are in the final stage, and we are ensuring all necessary infrastructure is ready to start online registrations from March 6," Garbyal stated. He further highlighted that, as of now, there will be no fee for online registration, though a final decision on this matter is still pending and will be communicated in due course.
Offline Registration and Support Teams
To cater to all pilgrims, offline registrations will begin a few days before the yatra officially starts. In a proactive move, the tourism department has constituted 20 dedicated teams that will visit hotels, ashrams, and dharamshalas across the region. These teams aim to facilitate offline bookings, particularly for devotees travelling in groups, thereby streamlining the process. "This initiative is designed to save time and reduce the need for pilgrims to stand in long queues, enhancing their overall experience," Garbyal explained.
Expected Pilgrim Footfall and Annual Significance
The Char Dham Yatra, encompassing the four revered shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, attracts approximately 50 lakh pilgrims annually. Authorities are optimistic that this figure will be surpassed in the upcoming 2026 season, reflecting the growing devotion and improved logistical support. The yatra not only holds immense religious importance but also significantly boosts local tourism and economy in Uttarakhand.
With final touches being applied to the preparations, devotees are advised to stay updated through official channels for any further announcements regarding registration fees, travel guidelines, and safety measures. The Char Dham Yatra 2026 promises to be a spiritually enriching journey, supported by modern administrative efforts to ensure convenience and sanctity for all participants.
