Delhi Government Unveils Open-Top Double-Decker Buses to Enhance Tourism Experience

The Delhi government is poised to launch a fleet of open-top double-decker buses later this month, marking a significant initiative to boost tourism in the national capital. These buses are designed to provide both domestic and international visitors with an elevated, panoramic sightseeing experience, allowing them to explore Delhi's iconic landmarks in a more engaging and immersive manner.

Curated Route Connecting Major Heritage and Cultural Sites

The new bus circuit will connect a curated selection of major heritage and cultural sites across the city. Key stops on the route include the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, National War Memorial, Bharat Mandapam, the new Parliament complex, Kartavya Path, and Dilli Haat. This organized route aims to help tourists explore Delhi efficiently while highlighting its rich democratic and cultural heritage.

Showcasing Central Vista and Nearby Landmarks as a Cohesive Experience

This initiative is part of a broader plan to showcase the Central Vista and its surrounding landmarks as a unified tourist attraction. By offering a seamless and organized journey, the government seeks to present Delhi's historical and architectural marvels in a cohesive manner, enhancing the overall appeal for visitors.

Mix of Classic Sightseeing and Eco-Friendly Transport Options

Initially, the service will operate with one open-top double-decker bus and two electric buses, blending classic sightseeing with sustainable transport. The electric double-decker bus, provided under a corporate social responsibility initiative by a private manufacturer, was previously stationed at the Okhla depot under the transport department before being transferred to the tourism department.

Evening Tours to Experience Illuminated Landmarks

Officials have announced that evening tours will also be introduced, allowing visitors to experience Delhi's landmarks illuminated at night. This addition promises a more scenic and captivating view of the capital, catering to tourists seeking unique nighttime experiences.

Operational Details and Future Plans

Ticketing, schedules, and specific operational routes are expected to be finalized and announced soon, enabling visitors to plan their trips effectively. The project is anticipated to improve the overall tourist experience, encourage longer stays in Delhi, and promote sustainable public transport, aligning with the government's eco-friendly and tourism-focused goals.
