Influencers Embark on 'Melghat Passion Trail' to Discover Tiger Reserve's Wilderness
In a unique initiative to showcase the hidden gems of Melghat Tiger Reserve, a group of 25 social media influencers set out on a four-day adventure dubbed the 'Melghat Passion Trail.' The journey commenced on Sunday from Nagpur's Zero Mile, with participants venturing into the heart of the reserve, known for its winding roads and lush valleys in the Amravati district of Maharashtra.
Exploring the Ecological and Historical Landscape
Organized in collaboration with The Times of India, the trail aims to bring Melghat's lesser-known stories to a wider audience through firsthand experiences. Upon arrival at the forest rest house in Chikhaldara, often called the 'Kashmir of Vidarbha,' deputy conservator of forests Kirti Jamdade provided an overview of the region's rich ecological and social fabric. The group then divided into four teams to maximize their exploration.
Three teams embarked on jungle safaris in areas like Shahnoor, Seemadoh, and Vasali, navigating narrow paths that disappeared into dense teak forests. During these excursions, wildlife sightings were subtle yet captivating—from fading pugmarks to distant animal calls that hinted at the reserve's thriving biodiversity without fully revealing its inhabitants.
Historic Trek at Gavilgad Fort
The fourth team remained in Chikhaldara for a grounded engagement, trekking through the historic Gavilgad Fort as part of the Vairat safari experience. This fort, with origins dating back to the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, later served as a strategic stronghold for Raghuji Bhonsale I during his campaigns in Bengal. Walking along its black stone ramparts and forest-lined pathways, the influencers encountered a space where history seamlessly merges with wilderness.
Delhi-based influencer Ayesha Malik shared her impressions, stating, "The first thing you notice here isn't the landscape, it's the chirping of birds and the soulfulness of the air. There's a stillness and clarity you don't realize you're missing until you step into a place like this. The Vairat trail isn't just a walk through a fort; it's a reset in how you experience nature."
Unique Perspectives on Nature and Heritage
Influencer Manpreet Kaur highlighted the distinctiveness of Gavilgad Fort compared to others she has visited, such as those in Rajasthan. "The black stone, the way it blends into the forest, and the rugged setting make it feel less like a monument and more like an extension of the terrain," she remarked. As the group traversed uneven terrain and dense patches, they observed diverse birdlife and signs of sloth bears, underscoring the area's vibrant ecosystem.
This immersive experience offered an intimate perspective on Melghat, where every turn revealed layers of ecological and historical significance. The 'Melghat Passion Trail' not only promotes tourism but also fosters a deeper appreciation for conservation efforts in one of India's vital tiger reserves.
