The historic city of Jaisalmer is witnessing an extraordinary influx of visitors as thousands of tourists, predominantly from within India, have descended upon the golden city to ring in the New Year. This massive surge has prompted a major security and logistical response from both the Border Security Force (BSF) and the local police to ensure celebrations remain safe and smooth.
BSF Launches Special Border Alert Operation
With the tourist flow particularly directed towards sensitive border areas like the revered Tanot Mata Temple and the historic Longewala site, the BSF Rajasthan Frontier has taken proactive measures. Inspector General M.L. Garg stated that a special operation alert exercise is in effect from December 26 to January 7 as a precaution.
This operation has led to a strengthened deployment of BSF personnel along the international border. Vigilance has been sharply increased with enhanced patrolling and surveillance across all sensitive zones to prevent any potential smuggling attempts or untoward incidents.
Police Mobilise for Traffic and Law & Order
Within the city, the Jaisalmer police have been placed on high alert to manage the unprecedented crowds. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare outlined the comprehensive arrangements. The Station House Officers (SHOs) of Sam and Khuhdi police stations have been specifically instructed to remain on maximum alert throughout the celebration period.
The traffic branch has been tasked with ensuring smooth vehicular movement and efficient parking management to tackle the current tourist rush. A large contingent of police force has been deployed across Jaisalmer to maintain public order.
Proactive Checks and Plainclothes Surveillance
Beyond visible deployments, the police are conducting random checks at hotels and dharamshalas to identify any suspicious individuals. In a strategic move, plainclothes police officers have been stationed at key points including the railway station, bus stand, and major tourist spots to discreetly monitor activities citywide.
"We have ensured that tourists do not face any inconvenience," SP Shivhare added. He highlighted that proactive steps have curbed increased activities of pickpockets. Strict instructions have also been issued to prevent misbehaviour or snatching incidents, especially on the popular sand dunes of Sam.
The coordinated efforts by the BSF and Jaisalmer Police aim to create a secure environment, allowing the thousands of domestic tourists to celebrate the New Year in the majestic desert city without any safety concerns.
