Kazakh Travel Delegation Arrives in Goa to Strengthen Tourism Collaboration

A travel trade delegation from Almaty, Kazakhstan, has arrived in Goa as part of a strategic familiarisation trip aimed at bolstering tourism collaboration and positioning Goa as a preferred international destination. This initiative coincides with the Goa tourism department's participation in the three-day Travel & Tourism Fair held in Bengaluru, creating a synergistic push to attract global visitors.

Fostering Deeper Engagement with Emerging Markets

The visit brought together key stakeholders, including tourism boards, tour operators, travel agents, and hospitality representatives from across India. Tourism Director Kedar Naik emphasized the importance of such familiarisation visits, stating, "These trips are a crucial step in strengthening Goa's engagement with emerging international markets like Kazakhstan. By experiencing the destination firsthand, travel partners gain deeper insight into Goa's diverse offerings, from culture and heritage to wellness and experiential tourism, enabling them to promote Goa effectively to travellers from their region."

Ernest Dias, Chief Operating Officer of TCI and SITA, facilitated the Kazakh group's visit as part of the state's broader strategy to tap into promising international markets. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte highlighted Kazakhstan's potential, noting it represents a promising region for tourism growth, with increasing interest in unique travel experiences.

Exploring Goa's Diverse Tourism Ecosystem

The delegation is set to explore a wide array of attractions across Goa, including:

  • Heritage sites that showcase the state's rich historical tapestry.
  • Spice plantations offering immersive agricultural experiences.
  • Other experiential tourism offerings that highlight local traditions and lifestyles.

This exploration aims to provide the delegates with deeper insights into Goa's tourism ecosystem, moving beyond the conventional beach-centric image.

Diversifying Tourism Beyond the Coastline

The Goa tourism department is actively working to diversify its tourism portfolio away from the coastline. The focus is shifting towards:

  1. Cultural Tourism: Promoting heritage and spiritual circuits.
  2. Hinterland Experiences: Encouraging eco-tourism and rural tourism.
  3. Wellness Tourism: Leveraging Ayurveda and yoga traditions.
  4. Culinary Traditions: Showcasing local cuisine and food tours.
  5. MICE Opportunities: Developing meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions to attract business travellers.

This strategic diversification aims to create a more sustainable and year-round tourism model, reducing dependency on seasonal beach tourism and enhancing Goa's appeal as a multifaceted destination.

By engaging with emerging markets like Kazakhstan, Goa seeks to build long-term partnerships that drive tourism growth, foster cultural exchange, and position the state as a top choice for international travellers seeking diverse and enriching experiences.
