Mizoram and Niti Aayog Forge Partnership for Tourism Development
In a significant move to boost tourism in India's northeastern region, Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar held crucial discussions with Niti Aayog member VK Paul in Delhi on Monday. The meeting focused on organizing a joint Mizoram Tourism Conclave as a collaborative venture between the central government's policy think tank and the Mizoram state government.
Strategic Planning for Tourism Growth
The high-level discussion centered around ensuring broader participation from various stakeholders to maximize benefits for Mizoram's tourism sector. Both parties agreed to establish a dedicated task force that will work on finalizing the conclave's timing and ensure its smooth execution.
This development comes as Mizoram prepares for another important event - the 'Stakeholder Consultation on Ginger Produce for Mizoram' scheduled for November 24 in Delhi. The ginger consultation, which will be attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, is also expected to feature tourism showcases during its sidelines, creating additional platforms to promote the state's attractions.
Tourism Boom Following Railway Connectivity
Minister Hmar highlighted the remarkable surge in tourist numbers, particularly after the recent railway extension to Sairang, located on the western outskirts of Aizawl, the state capital. The improved connectivity has significantly boosted visitor numbers, making Mizoram more accessible to domestic and international travelers alike.
According to official data collected by the Mizoram tourism department from various tourist service providers, the state witnessed an impressive 127,458 tourists during August and September this year. This figure includes 2,208 foreign tourists, indicating growing international interest in the northeastern state.
The capital district of Aizawl emerged as the most popular destination, hosting 75,461 tourists during the two-month period. The statistics demonstrate the substantial potential for further growth in Mizoram's tourism industry, which the proposed conclave aims to harness through strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.
The collaborative approach between Niti Aayog and the Mizoram government signals a renewed focus on developing the tourism potential of northeastern states, with arrangements being made to attract participants from government departments, industrial sectors, educational institutions, and related organizations.
