In a significant development for Asian travelers, the Sultanate of Oman has announced a landmark visa exemption for citizens of the Philippines. This strategic move is set to redefine travel dynamics between the two nations, making Oman the first Middle Eastern country to offer such a facility to Filipino passport holders.
A New Era of Visa-Free Access
The official declaration was made by Oman’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Nasser Said Abdullah Al Manwari, during the country's National Day celebrations held in Makati City on November 19. The ambassador confirmed that starting in 2026, Filipino citizens will be allowed to enter Oman without a visa for short stays lasting up to two weeks.
Ambassador Manwari expressed great optimism about this policy shift, telling reporters, "You can enjoy Oman anytime without a visa. Next year, it will be around two weeks without visa." He firmly believes that removing this bureaucratic hurdle will lead to a dramatic surge in the number of Filipino tourists choosing Oman as their next holiday destination.
Enhanced Connectivity and Flight Expansion
To support the anticipated influx of visitors, Oman is also focusing on improving air links with the Philippines. While direct flights already connect Manila to the capital city of Muscat, authorities are actively working to expand this network.
Ambassador Manwari revealed concrete plans for launching an additional direct flight to Cebu, a major hub in the Visayas region. He acknowledged that while there is a willingness to increase flight frequency from Manila, the current capacity constraints of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) present a challenge. The expansion efforts are not limited to the national carrier, Oman Air, as the government is in talks with other airlines to operate on these routes, ensuring more options and convenience for travelers.
Discovering Oman's Unique Landscape
Beyond the eased travel regulations, Ambassador Manwari extended a warm invitation to Filipinos, encouraging them to explore what makes Oman a unique gem in the Middle East. He passionately described the country's diverse topography, which offers a rich tapestry of experiences far beyond the common perception of the region.
"We have mountains, by the coast. We have sands… For our Filipino friends, please visit Oman. It is something amazing. It is unique in the Middle East," he noted. From stunning coastal lines and vast desert dunes to rugged mountain ranges, Oman provides a compelling blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty, promising an unforgettable journey for every kind of traveler.
This visa-free policy marks a pivotal step in strengthening the bilateral relationship between Oman and the Philippines, fostering greater people-to-people contact and unlocking new opportunities in the tourism sector.
