GK Vasan's TMC Quits NDA, Likely to Join DMK Alliance

CHENNAI: The Tamil Manila Congress (TMC), led by GK Vasan, officially withdrew from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday. According to sources within the party, the TMC is likely to join the DMK-led alliance in the near future.

Speaking to reporters, TMC president GK Vasan stated that while he had no grievances with the NDA partners, the decision to exit the alliance was made to strengthen his party's position. The move was formalized during the party's executive council meeting held in Chennai.

The TMC contested five seats as part of the NDA in the recently concluded 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections but failed to win a single seat. Reports also indicate that the party was dissatisfied with the constituencies allocated to it by the AIADMK, a key NDA ally.

With the TMC's departure, the NDA's strength in Tamil Nadu weakens further. Political analysts suggest that the TMC's potential alignment with the DMK could bolster the ruling coalition in the state.
