Rajasthan Unveils Ambitious Tourism and Cultural Development Plan in State Budget
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Diya Kumari has unveiled a comprehensive package of strategic initiatives designed to fortify Rajasthan's standing as a premier global destination for tourism and culture. The announcements, made during her budget speech, represent a significant financial commitment to revitalizing and expanding the state's tourism ecosystem.
Major Financial Allocations for Tourism Infrastructure
A cornerstone of the budget is the substantial allocation of Rs 975 crore specifically dedicated to tourism infrastructure development. This fund will be strategically deployed to enhance and develop 10 iconic heritage destinations across the state, ensuring they meet international standards for visitor experience and preservation.
Focus on Niche Tourism and Heritage Conservation
Recognizing the diverse appeal of Rajasthan, the budget introduces targeted schemes for niche tourism segments. A dedicated Rs 100 crore Tribal Tourist Circuit has been announced to promote and develop tourism in tribal regions, offering authentic cultural experiences. Furthermore, the historic Jaisalmer War Museum is slated for a significant expansion to better showcase its military heritage.
In a major move for heritage preservation, the government has launched the Shekhawati Haveli Conservation Scheme. This initiative is aimed at meticulously preserving the region's world-renowned frescoed mansions, which are architectural treasures. Complementing this, the establishment of the Gogaji Art Centre in Bikaner will serve as a new hub for promoting local arts and crafts.
Boosting Religious Tourism and Cultural Celebrations
Religious and spiritual tourism, a vital sector, will receive new investments for infrastructure upgrades at major pilgrimage sites. A notable new scheme is the Senior Citizen Pilgrimage Scheme, which will provide air-conditioned train facilities for 50,000 pilgrims, enhancing comfort and accessibility.
To reinforce the state's rich cultural identity, Rajasthan will celebrate 300 years of Jaipur with the grand Govind Dev Ji Art Festival. This event is expected to attract global attention and celebrate the artistic legacy of the Pink City.
Industry Reaction and Aviation Infrastructure Development
Ranvijay Singh, Senior Vice President of the Federation of Rajasthan Hotels, expressed strong optimism regarding the announcements. He stated, "The announcements are expected to unleash a fresh lease of life for the sector that is the lifeline for a large base of stakeholders." This sentiment highlights the anticipated positive impact on hotels, guides, artisans, and local businesses.
Aviation infrastructure is also set for a substantial boost. Key projects include the development of an Aero City near Kota airport, the enhancement of 29 airstrips across the state to improve regional connectivity, and the establishment of new flying training organisations in Pratapgarh, Jhalawar, and Jhunjhunu to build local aviation capacity.
