Ranchi Airfares Skyrocket Amid War-Driven Fuel Price Hike
Airfares from Ranchi to several key destinations across India, including Delhi and Kolkata, have experienced a dramatic increase following airlines' decision to raise ticket prices. This move is a direct response to the escalating costs of jet fuel, which have been triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The sudden surge in fares has left travelers and tour operators in the city deeply concerned, especially during the peak summer travel season when demand is typically high.
Sharp Rise in Ticket Prices Across Major Routes
Flight tickets from Ranchi to Delhi have shot up to approximately Rs 15,000, a significant jump from the usual range of Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000, affecting various airlines. Similarly, airfares for Kolkata-bound flights have skyrocketed, reaching as high as Rs 17,000 for Friday departures, compared to the standard rate of around Rs 4,000. Mumbai-bound flights from the city have also witnessed a sharp rise, with one-way commute prices climbing to Rs 12,000.
Impact on Tour Operators and Summer Travel
The sharp increase in airfares is adversely affecting tour operators in Ranchi during what is usually one of the busiest seasons for the tourism sector. Travel agents report that the steep rise in fares has started to impact their business significantly, as tourists are hesitating to opt for travel packages. Mayank Vijaybargiya, a travel operator in the city, highlighted the challenges, stating, "Summer is typically a peak period for us, but the sudden hike in airfares has slowed down bookings considerably. Many families planning vacations are now reconsidering their travel plans."
He further explained that the ongoing conflict has already led to financial losses, with at least four families cancelling trips to Dubai due to safety concerns. "I was hoping for a surge in domestic travel to compensate, but with airfares increasing, I am not very optimistic," he added.
Challenges with Alternative Travel Options
Another tour operator, Pratik Jain, pointed out additional difficulties, noting that the unavailability of train tickets as an alternative to flights is exacerbating the inconvenience for travelers. "While airfares are skyrocketing, we are unable to secure train tickets for popular tourist destinations within the country. Repeated attempts to book train tickets are yielding no results," Jain said.
He emphasized the need for government intervention to control the rising airfares, arguing that such measures are crucial for the survival of the tourism sector. "The situation requires urgent attention to stabilize prices and support the industry during this challenging time," he concluded.
