The BRICS STI Framework Programme has issued a new call for research proposals, inviting scientists and organizations from member states to collaborate on joint research activities addressing global challenges. Collaboration must involve at least three BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The programme aims to facilitate sharing of ideas, technology, and resources among researchers.
Water Research: Focus on Safety and Smart Systems
One of the primary areas is water research. Scientists will work on improving water system tracking and treatment methods. The programme also emphasizes water reuse and better resource management. Another key goal is reducing damage from floods, droughts, and other water-related disasters using data and modern tools.
AI and Computing: New Technology Push
Another focus area is High Performance Computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Innovations in computer technology, HPC, AI, and quantum computing will be explored to develop faster and more efficient digital systems.
Energy: Sustainable and Smart Energy Systems
Under energy technology innovations, the focus will be on solar power and other renewable energy forms. Smart energy networks capable of efficiently utilizing renewable energy are also under consideration.
Health: Better Medicine and Digital Care
In health and medicine, the programme supports research in biotechnology, genetics, and modern healthcare tools. Scientists will study AI-based healthcare, telemedicine, diagnosis and treatment methods, and personalized medicine.
Food: Better and Smarter Agriculture
Another significant area is food security. Researchers will investigate climate change-resistant crops, advanced agricultural techniques, agriculture-related technology, fisheries, and food safety monitoring.
Materials: Advanced and Innovative Materials
The programme also focuses on developing novel materials that are more efficient and have special applications in energy storage, healthcare, and technological innovations. This category includes nanomaterials and biomaterials.
