Siswan-Mirzapur Forest Area Becomes Eco-Tourism Hotspot in Mohali

Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak announced on Thursday that the Siswan-Mirzapur forest area in Mohali has rapidly developed into a thriving eco-tourism destination. The Mohali forest division's sustained initiatives have driven this transformation.

Popular Nature Trek and Enhanced Facilities

The 5-kilometer Siswan-Mirzapur Nature Trek now stands as a major attraction. Walkers, nature enthusiasts, and families complete this scenic route in about one and a half hours. They enjoy lush forest cover, picturesque viewpoints, and watchtowers along the way. Footfall has increased sharply in recent months.

At the Siswan Dam site, visitors can access boating facilities, a canteen, and three eco-huts. These additions improve the tourist experience while maintaining minimal disturbance to the local ecosystem.

Educational Activities and Community Engagement

A recent Nature Awareness Camp at Siswan Dam featured cycling and a guided trek. This event saw strong public participation, with many attendees coming from Chandigarh. School groups regularly visit for educational trips that promote environmental awareness.

The Forest Division also focuses on supporting livelihoods in forest-fringe villages. Self-help groups in Siswan, Gochar, and Nada receive training in various trades. These include pickle making, tailoring, cloth-bag manufacturing, and beauty services. The Siswan Forest Committee recently distributed utensils as part of its community outreach efforts.

Future Development and Sustainable Model

More nature trails and trekking routes are currently under development. Minister Kataruchak emphasized that these combined efforts strengthen conservation practices. They promote responsible eco-tourism while making the Siswan-Mirzapur belt a model for sustainable development.
