Indian Army Hosts Iftar Gatherings Across Kashmir to Foster Harmony During Ramzan

In a significant community outreach effort, the Indian Army is hosting iftar gatherings at multiple locations across Kashmir as part of its goodwill initiatives during the holy month of Ramzan. These events aim to foster harmony between troops and local residents, promoting peace and trust in the region.

Army Units Organize Iftar Events in Key Areas

Several formations and units in Kashmir, including Romeo Force in Rajouri, Victor Force in Awantipora, and Kilo Force in Budgam, are actively organizing these iftar gatherings. All these units are part of the Rashtriya Rifles, and senior commanders have noted that the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains largely stable, providing a conducive environment for such community engagements.

Ramzan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting, prayers, reflection, and charity. Iftar, the community feast to break the fast, serves as a key moment for social bonding and cultural exchange.

Chinar Corps Leads Outreach with Special Focus on Orphans

The Srinagar-based 15 Corps, known as the Chinar Warriors, has been at the forefront of these initiatives. In a statement on its X handle, the corps highlighted, "In the sacred month of Ramadan, Chinar Warriors shared culture, tradition, and kindness with Kashmiri Awam. Iftars across the valley resonated with shared prayers and meals, turning tradition into a bridge of unity and harmony."

A poignant aspect of these efforts was the iftar hosted by the Chinar Warriors for underprivileged orphans from Baitul Falah Boys Yatim Khana and Darul Mushinat Girls Yatim Khana. The Army reported that the event fostered solidarity, kinship, and affinity, with children sharing their dreams in a supportive environment.

Longstanding Practice to Strengthen Civil-Military Relations

Organizing iftar in Kashmir has been a longstanding practice by the Indian Army, designed to:

  • Promote peace, trust, and communal harmony.
  • Strengthen civil-military relations at the grassroots level.
  • Demonstrate respect and solidarity for local culture and religion.

The Army, along with social media platforms, has shared pictures and videos showcasing soldiers, including senior officers, mingling with the local community. These visuals depict exchanges of greetings, shared meals, and distribution of gifts to children, underscoring the positive impact of these gatherings.

As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, these iftar events continue to build bridges of understanding and cooperation, contributing to a more harmonious atmosphere in Kashmir.
