Army Commanders Stress Drone Integration Following Operation Sindoor Review
Senior Army commanders have conducted a thorough assessment of India's security challenges along its borders with Pakistan and China. This review was centered on enhancing combat capabilities by applying critical lessons learned from last year's Operation Sindoor.
Focus on Unmanned Systems and Counter-Drone Technologies
The discussions took place during the four-day biannual Army Commanders' Conference, held from April 13 to 16. A primary focus was on the operational capability requirements of the force, with particular emphasis on integrating unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and developing robust counter-UAS technologies.
This strategic shift aims to modernize the Army's approach to surveillance, reconnaissance, and defensive operations in increasingly complex battlefield environments.

The conference was chaired by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and featured addresses from key government officials. Attendees included Cabinet Secretary T V Somanathan, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Defence Secretary R K Singh.
In alignment with its vision to become a 'Future Ready Force', the Indian Army has designated 2026 as the year of 'Networking and Data Centricity'. This initiative underscores a commitment to leveraging advanced digital infrastructure and data-driven decision-making processes.
Pushing for Indigenous Production and Self-Reliance
Commanders strongly emphasized the urgent need to accelerate capabilities for the indigenous production of military hardware. Strengthening self-reliance in defence is viewed as essential for ensuring long-term strategic resilience, especially in light of supply chain disruptions caused by ongoing geopolitical upheavals.
