Bokaro Airport Project: DC Urges AAI to Fast-Track Development After Inspection
Bokaro Airport: DC Pushes for Fast-Track After AAI Review

Bokaro Airport Project Gains Momentum as DC Calls for Expedited Action

In a significant push for regional aviation infrastructure, Bokaro's Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha has formally requested the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to fast-track the development of the Bokaro airport project. This directive comes on the heels of a comprehensive 48-hour inspection conducted by an AAI team, which concluded on Thursday, marking a critical step toward operationalizing the long-awaited facility.

AAI Inspection Team Reviews Key Infrastructure and Safety Measures

The inspection was led by Dilip Kumar Sinha, Assistant General Manager (Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance), who spearheaded a detailed assessment of the airport's infrastructure. The team meticulously evaluated safety protocols, emergency response systems, communication facilities, and environmental conditions to ensure compliance with aviation standards. Following the review, the team met with Deputy Commissioner Jha to present their findings, highlighting progress and identifying areas for further action.

Officials involved in the project have reported that most of the requirements outlined by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security have been nearly addressed, signaling positive advancements. However, the project still awaits final clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a crucial step before operations can commence. To streamline this process, DC Jha has emphasized the need for expedited coordination among stakeholders.

Administrative Measures to Accelerate Development

In a proactive move to overcome delays, Deputy Commissioner Jha has appointed Additional Collector Mumtaz Ansari as the nodal officer for the Bokaro airport project. This appointment aims to enhance coordination and fast-track administrative processes, ensuring that all necessary approvals and logistical arrangements are handled efficiently. The focus is on minimizing bureaucratic hurdles and accelerating the timeline toward making the airport operational.

Historical Context: Bokaro Airport Under the UDAN Scheme

The Bokaro airport project holds particular significance as it was included under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) Scheme in 2016, a government initiative aimed at enhancing regional air connectivity. Notably, while the Deoghar airport, also part of the same scheme, became operational in July 2022, the fate of the Bokaro airport has remained uncertain. This disparity has fueled local demands for faster development, with stakeholders urging authorities to bridge the gap and bring Bokaro onto the aviation map.

The recent inspection and administrative interventions reflect a renewed commitment to resolving this uncertainty. By addressing infrastructure gaps and streamlining approvals, officials hope to replicate the success seen in Deoghar and provide Bokaro with much-needed air connectivity, boosting economic growth and accessibility in the region.
