Canada's Immigration Authority Issues Clear Warning on Visa Guarantees
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued a definitive warning to all travellers: no individual or organisation can guarantee a Canadian visa. The agency emphasized that visa decisions are made exclusively by immigration officers, and applicants bear full responsibility for the completeness and accuracy of their applications.
Beware of False Promises for FIFA World Cup 2026
In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, IRCC cautioned against immigration agents who promise entry to Canada for the FIFA World Cup 2026™. "No one can guarantee you a Canadian visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA)," the agency stated. It stressed that applicants are accountable for all information in their applications, even if completed by a representative. Providing inaccurate documents could result in a severe 5-year ban from entering Canada.
Rising Threats of Visa Scams and Fraudulent Schemes
This advisory comes amid increasing reports of fraudulent activities where scammers offer guaranteed approvals or expedited processing in exchange for money. IRCC highlighted that such claims are entirely false and misleading, urging applicants to be vigilant against anyone proposing shortcuts. The agency clarified that paying extra fees to consultants or third parties does not influence visa outcomes, as decisions are based solely on merit and compliance with regulations.
Essential Steps to Protect Against Visa Scams
To safeguard against scams, IRCC recommends the following measures:
- Use the official IRCC website for all forms, updates, and application procedures.
- Ignore any offers that promise guaranteed visas or special privileges.
- Verify the credentials of immigration consultants through recognized Canadian regulatory bodies.
- Report suspicious activities or fraudulent schemes to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre promptly.
IRCC reiterated that travellers must provide truthful information and all required documentation when applying. Relying on official government sources and authorized representatives is crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable immigration information.
