Chinese Ambassador Calls for Enhanced India-China Coordination on Global Stage
Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong has emphasized the need for strengthened bilateral coordination between the two Asian giants to "jointly safeguard the legitimate rights" of developing nations worldwide. Speaking at the 4th China-India Youth Dialogue in New Delhi, the envoy warned against allowing international relations to revert to what he termed "the law of the jungle."
Shared Development and Global Responsibilities
Ambassador Xu highlighted the parallel developmental trajectories of both nations, noting their remarkable economic achievements in recent decades. "These accomplishments are built on the hard work and wisdom of our own people, supported by global cooperation," he stated during his address to young participants from both countries.
The Chinese diplomat positioned China and India as strategic partners within the Global South framework, calling for united action on the international stage. "China and India should strengthen communication and coordination, jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, and lead the Global South towards greater development," Xu asserted.
Cultural and Technological Convergence
Beyond diplomatic coordination, Ambassador Xu pointed to growing cultural exchanges between the two nations. He revealed that during his two-year tenure in India, he observed Chinese cultural products becoming integrated into the daily lives of Indian youth. "China's new trio of cultural products—online games, web series, and online literature—has quietly become part of the daily lives of Indian youth," the ambassador noted.
He further identified emerging Chinese lifestyle trends gaining popularity among Indian consumers, mentioning specifically that "trending Chinese products like Labubu are also emerging as new vehicles to express individuality" within India's youth demographic.
Technological Collaboration as Future Priority
The envoy identified innovation and technology as crucial areas for future bilateral engagement. Highlighting China's recent technological advancements, including humanoid robots performing martial arts and advanced AI video models, Xu contrasted this with India's own artificial intelligence priorities through the national India AI mission.
"Chinese and Indian youth should deepen exchanges and cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, digital economy, and green technology," he recommended, positioning the younger generation as key drivers of future technological collaboration between the two nations.
Diplomatic Foundations and Future Trajectory
Ambassador Xu attributed recent improvements in bilateral relations to high-level diplomatic engagements between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Since the meetings between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan and Tianjin, China-India relations have moved to a new level of improvement," he stated, noting "positive progress in exchanges and cooperation across various fields."
The Chinese envoy emphasized that both nations currently navigate a shared period of national transformation and development. "Today, both our countries are at a critical stage of development and national rejuvenation," Xu observed, advocating for mutual support and cooperation while each nation pursues its developmental objectives through independent efforts.
Concluding his address with a philosophical note, the ambassador called for preserving international harmony through traditional wisdom. "We should carry forward the Eastern wisdom of peaceful coexistence and mutual learning and prevent the world from reverting to the law of the jungle," he urged, framing the China-India relationship as potentially stabilizing force in global affairs.
