Congress slams US Rubio over Gulf strike killing 3 Indians

The Congress party has strongly criticized US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his statement regarding the American strike on a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman, which resulted in the deaths of three Indian crew members. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed his dismay on social media, stating, "Deeply shocking to read this official US statement, which contains absolutely no expression of regret or condolence for the loss of innocent Indian lives. How can a 'friend' and strategic partner be so deeply insensitive?"

Tharoor further highlighted the vulnerability of Indian sailors, asking, "Practically every merchant ship navigating these crucial waters has Indian crew on board. Are they all considered fair game for US missiles now?" Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera also condemned the US response, noting that Rubio's warning about non-compliance with US military orders "will not be tolerated" reflected a language of command, not contrition. Khera criticized India's official response, which described the incident as "not justified," saying such language is more fitting for an overpriced sandwich than a military strike that kills civilians.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of Indian seafarers in conflict zones and the diplomatic handling of the situation by the Indian government.
