Freight Train Derailment at Rupsa Junction Briefly Disrupts Rail Services in Balasore

A goods train derailed at Rupsa junction station in Balasore district on Friday morning, causing a temporary disruption to rail movement before services were restored by early afternoon. Railway officials confirmed the incident occurred around 9:35 am, affecting one track at the busy junction.

Details of the Derailment Incident

The freight train was moving from Rupsa junction siding toward the main station when the derailment occurred. According to railway authorities, the train had previously unloaded cement and fertiliser at Rupsa junction and was departing for Kharagpur at the time of the incident.

Railway officials stated that other lines at the station remained operational throughout the restoration process, allowing for continued train movement while repair work was underway. The affected track was successfully restored by railway staff from the Kharagpur division, with normal movement resuming by 1:30 pm on the same day.

No Injuries Reported, Inquiry Initiated

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the derailment. Railway sources indicated there was no immediate information about significant damage to railway property beyond the derailed wagons themselves.

Railway authorities have launched an official inquiry to determine the precise cause of the derailment. The investigation will examine various factors that might have contributed to the incident at the junction, which falls under the Kharagpur division of the South-Eastern Railway (SER).

Quick Restoration of Services

The prompt response by railway personnel ensured minimal disruption to rail operations in the region. The efficient restoration work highlights the railway department's preparedness for such incidents, particularly at important junctions like Rupsa that serve as critical points in the regional rail network.

This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in maintaining India's extensive railway infrastructure while ensuring the safe and timely movement of goods across the country.
