Chandigarh Set for Sky-High Spectacle with IAF Surya Kiran Aerobatic Show
Chandigarh is gearing up for an exhilarating aerial display as the Indian Air Force's prestigious Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team prepares to perform over Sukhna Lake on March 27 and 28. This event marks a significant civilian air show for the city, promising breathtaking precision formations and high-speed manoeuvres against the scenic backdrop of the lake.
Event Details and High-Profile Invitations
The aerobatic shows are scheduled from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on both days, with the March 28 display commencing at 10:40 AM. Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria will attend as the chief guest on March 28, following a personal invitation from Air Commodore Deepak Pant, AOC of Air Force Station Chandigarh. The event's importance extends beyond Chandigarh, with invitations extended to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Cabinet Ministers and Assembly Speakers from both states.

Visitors must arrive at their designated boarding points by 9:00 AM, as CTU buses will depart promptly at that time.

Comprehensive Safety and Preparatory Measures
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav chaired a detailed review meeting with all stakeholder departments, including the Air Force, Police, Municipal Corporation, Health, and Fire Services, to ensure a seamless and incident-free execution. A team of 200 Civil Defence volunteers will be deployed to assist spectators at entry points, staircases, and drinking water stations.
Visitors are advised to carry only transparent water bottles, avoid bringing eatables, and refrain from bringing children below the age of 6 years. Adequate drinking water and sanitation facilities will be provided at the venue. A running commentary will accompany the aerobatic manoeuvres, enhancing the spectator experience by explaining each display in detail.
Significance and Rarity of the Event
With this show, Chandigarh joins a select group of Indian cities to host the Surya Kiran team in a dedicated civilian aerobatic display, making it a rare and must-watch event for residents of the Tricity and beyond. The administration has directed all departments to finalize action plans, deploy sufficient manpower, and maintain constant communication to handle any contingencies effectively, ensuring a memorable and safe experience for all attendees.
