Indian Embassy in Bahrain Issues Critical Safety Advisory Amid Regional Conflict

In response to escalating regional tensions and the threat of further airstrikes, the Indian Embassy in Bahrain has issued an urgent advisory to all Indian nationals residing in the country. The embassy has explicitly called upon citizens to refrain from filming or recording footage at military sites or any military actions, and to avoid spreading unverified information about the ongoing conflict.

Strict Warning Against Filming and Misinformation

Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, Vinod K Jacob, delivered a stern video message emphasizing the importance of public safety and legal compliance. "Kindly, do not spread false information. You must not circulate or repost unverified videos or news about the conflict," Ambassador Jacob stated. He highlighted that a ban on public gatherings in roads and public squares has been announced, urging the community to adhere to these regulations.

The advisory comes in the wake of recent incidents where six South Asians – comprising five Pakistanis and one Bangladeshi – were arrested for filming attacks. This underscores the serious legal consequences of such actions in the current volatile environment.

Safety Protocols and Emergency Preparedness

Ambassador Jacob reiterated essential safety measures for Indian nationals. "When sirens are sounded, please remain calm and move into the nearest safe place," he advised. He reminded the community of his repeated requests to keep safe, obey alerts, and respect the laws of the Kingdom of Bahrain, emphasizing these points once more due to the heightened risks.

In view of the precarious regional situation, all Indian nationals have been advised to remain extremely vigilant and exercise due care. The embassy's fresh advisory stresses the need for heightened awareness and precautionary actions to ensure personal safety.

Travel and Transit Arrangements Amid Airspace Closure

With Bahrain's airspace currently closed, the Indian Embassy is actively facilitating transit options for stranded Indian nationals, particularly those on tourist or short-term visas. The primary route being organized is through Saudi Arabia, with the embassy prioritizing assistance for those in urgent need of repatriation.

According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for transit through Saudi Arabia, travelers must adhere to specific requirements:

  • Possess a confirmed air ticket for onward travel to India.
  • Present the Note Verbale or formal note issued by the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to Saudi immigration authorities at the checkpoint before entering Saudi Arabia.

This structured approach aims to streamline the evacuation process and ensure a safe passage for Indian citizens affected by the regional disruptions. The embassy continues to monitor the situation closely and provide updated guidance as needed.
