The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially confirmed the tragic demise of an Indian national in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, attributing the incident to recent security events that unfolded on March 18th. This development comes as the Indian government intensifies its efforts to repatriate citizens affected by the ongoing West Asia conflict, which has now entered its 21st day.

MEA Update on Casualties and Repatriation Efforts
During an Inter-Ministerial Briefing in New Delhi, Additional Secretary Aseem Mahajan from the Gulf Division of the MEA provided a detailed update. He confirmed, "Late last night, we received information regarding the tragic demise of an Indian national during an attack in Riyadh on 18th March. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased." Mahajan emphasized that the Indian mission in Riyadh is in close touch with the family and is working diligently with Saudi authorities to expedite the repatriation process.
Furthermore, the MEA official disclosed that the conflict has resulted in a rising toll among Indian citizens in the region. Six Indian nationals have unfortunately lost their lives, and one remains missing in various incidents across the Gulf. Indian missions in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq, and the UAE are maintaining regular contact with local authorities to locate the missing individual and ensure the swift repatriation of the deceased's remains.
Rescue and Evacuation Operations for Indian Seafarers
Amidst these somber developments, the Indian government has also been actively involved in rescue operations for seafarers caught in the conflict's maritime zones. Mahajan reported that 15 Indian crew members of the MT Safesea Vishnu, who were safely rescued, departed from Iraq on Thursday and are expected to arrive in India from Saudi Arabia today. This follows previous successful repatriation efforts, where 24 rescued Indian seafarers, including 16 from MV MKD Vyom and 8 from MT Skylight, arrived in India from Oman.
