Indore Airport's Terminal-1 Revamp Inaugurated Virtually by Union Minister
The renovated Terminal-1 (T-1) at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore was virtually inaugurated on Sunday by Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was physically present at the airport for the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in Madhya Pradesh's aviation infrastructure development.
Enhanced Capacity and Passenger Amenities
Flight operations from the revamped terminal are scheduled to commence in April. The facility, spread across 6,000 square metres, has been designed to handle 15 lakh passengers annually. This upgrade pushes the airport's total capacity to an impressive 50 lakh passengers per year. The renovation project, which lasted two years and cost Rs 50 crore, was primarily aimed at de-cluttering the airport and enhancing passenger amenities, ensuring a smoother travel experience.
Madhya Pradesh's Ambitious Connectivity Roadmap
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav unveiled the state government's transformative '150-75-45' connectivity roadmap for skyways. This ambitious plan envisions a commercial airport at every 150 km, an airstrip at every 75 km, and a helipad at every 45 km across Madhya Pradesh. Yadav emphasized the state's rapid progress in aviation, stating, "With upcoming airports in Ujjain and Shivpuri, the state will soon have 10 functional airports. We have successfully operationalised airports in Rewa, Satna, and Datia in just two years."
Logistics Hub and Affordable Air Travel
The Chief Minister highlighted that Madhya Pradesh is rapidly evolving into the nation's logistics hub, supported by massive central packages for road connectivity and expressways. He articulated a vision for inclusive air travel, saying, "Our goal is to ensure that every citizen, even those wearing hawai chappals, can afford to fly." During the ceremony, Yadav presented airport officials with a Quality Certificate of Registration issued by the America Quality Council to Indore Airport, recognizing its standards.
Additional Aviation Initiatives
CM Yadav also highlighted the success of the air ambulance service launched in the state, underscoring the broader efforts to improve healthcare and emergency response through aviation. This initiative aligns with the state's comprehensive approach to enhancing connectivity and infrastructure.
The inauguration of Terminal-1 represents a key step in Madhya Pradesh's strategy to boost regional connectivity and economic growth, positioning Indore as a pivotal aviation node in central India.
