Iran's FM Rejects Trump's 'Reckless' Warning on Protests, Vows to Resist Interference
Iran rebuffs Trump's warning, vows to reject any interference

Iran's top diplomat has delivered a sharp rebuke to the United States after President Donald Trump issued a warning concerning the ongoing protests within the Islamic Republic. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi categorically stated that any external interference in Iran's internal matters would be met with a firm and forceful rejection.

Diplomatic Firestorm Over Internal Affairs

The exchange began when President Trump posted a message on his Truth Social platform. He declared that if Iranian authorities were to "violently kill peaceful protesters," the United States would "come to their rescue," adding that Washington was "locked and loaded." This direct threat prompted an immediate and strong response from Tehran.

In a detailed post on X, Foreign Minister Araghchi described Trump's comments as "reckless and dangerous." He suggested the US President's stance was likely shaped by individuals opposed to diplomatic engagement with Iran. Araghchi emphasized that the Iranian nation has a history of resisting foreign meddling and would do so again.

Protests Driven by Economic Hardship

Araghchi provided context for the demonstrations, now in their sixth consecutive day. He attributed the unrest primarily to economic pressures caused by significant fluctuations in Iran's currency. The minister acknowledged the right of citizens to protest peacefully against these transient financial difficulties.

However, he also noted that authorities had witnessed isolated violent acts amidst the largely peaceful gatherings. These incidents reportedly included attacks on a police station and assailants throwing Molotov cocktails at police officers. Drawing a parallel to domestic US events, Araghchi pointed out that Trump, "of all people should know that criminal attacks on public property cannot be tolerated," referencing the past deployment of the National Guard within America.

Iran's Security Establishment on High Alert

The Iranian response was not limited to diplomatic channels. Araghchi issued a clear warning that the country's armed forces are on standby to respond to any violation of Iran's sovereignty. This military posture underscores the seriousness with which Tehran views the potential for external intervention.

Other senior Iranian officials echoed this hardline stance. Ali Shamkhani, a key adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated that Iran's security was an absolute "red line." He warned that any intervention would trigger a direct response. Meanwhile, figures like Ali Larijani accused the United States and Israel of actively fueling the unrest, cautioning that such actions could lead to broader instability across the entire region.

These protests represent the most significant wave of public dissent since the 2022 demonstrations triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini. According to the Associated Press, at least seven people have been killed in violence linked to the current unrest, highlighting the tense situation on the ground as Iran navigates both internal economic strife and escalating international tensions.
